Our ethos.
Redefining Nigerian Cuisine, One plate at a Time.
The Vision
At Oúnjẹ Co., we envision a world where Nigerian cuisine and the country’s hospitality sector stand at the forefront of global culinary innovation and recognition. Our mission is to transform how Nigerian food is experienced, not just through innovation, but through a deep respect for the roots that make it so unique. By showcasing indigenous ingredients, we aim to honour the traditions that have shaped Nigerian culinary arts for generations while reimagining classic dishes with modern techniques.
We are also committed to elevating the Nigerian hospitality industry as a whole, contributing to the development of standards and practices that align with global best practices. By fostering talent, refining service, and optimising operational processes, we aim to create a more robust and sustainable hospitality ecosystem that benefits both local businesses and international visitors.
Through our dining experiences, we invite exploration, spark conversation, and build a deeper connection to the culture behind the food. Each dish we create is a testament to the beauty of Nigerian cuisine — from the savoury depth of our stews to the vibrant flavours of our street food — all reimagined in a way that highlights their contemporary relevance. Oúnjẹ’s vision is not only to celebrate Nigerian cuisine but to make it a global force in the culinary world, inspiring chefs, diners, and food lovers around the world to discover and embrace the rich tapestry of flavours that West Africa has to offer. We believe in the power of food to connect people, foster cultural exchange, and spark lasting memories, and through every meal, we work to share Nigeria’s culinary heritage with the world.
The Visionary
Wunmi Durosinmi-Etti, the visionary behind Oúnjẹ Co., is a culinary entrepreneur with a profound commitment to Nigerian cuisine and its place on the world’s culinary map. With over a decade of experience in both Lagos and London, Chef Wu has cultivated a deep understanding of global culinary trends while staying true to her Nigerian roots. Her journey began with her London-based venture, AngryBlackKitchen, and has evolved into Oúnjẹ, where she reimagines traditional Nigerian dishes with a contemporary twist.
In her current role as the Culinary Arts Curator at the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Chef Wu plays an instrumental role in curating programs that celebrate and preserve Yoruba food traditions. Through these initiatives, she elevates the cultural significance of Yoruba cuisine and its place in the broader context of Nigerian culinary heritage.
Chef Wu’s approach to food is deeply rooted in authenticity while embracing innovation. She uses One Bite at a Time, her podcast, as a platform to educate, share stories, and amplify the voices of Nigerian chefs and food enthusiasts, making room for a global conversation around Nigerian cuisine. The podcast is an extension of her mission to bring Nigerian culinary arts to the forefront and ensure that it gets the international recognition it deserves.
Chef Wu's work continues to inspire and empower a new generation of culinary professionals across Nigeria and the African continent. By creating opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and education, she is building a legacy that will shape the future of West African-inspired fusion cuisine for years to come.
